Squirrel Thoughts

When I saw both the challenges for The Paper Players, and Freshly Made Sketches this week, I knew that I could combine them both for a card that I needed to make.  Here are the challenges:

As I have stated before on my blog, I love squirrels.  We try to feed the real ones in the yard, and I have a bunch of nic nac squirrels in the house.  So imagine to my distress, when Mackie came back from dog sitting on Sunday, saying that the dog had gotten a squirrel.  The squirrel was still alive, so I immediately searched online to find a "rehab" place that would take the squirrel and try to save it.

I found the Animal Rehabilitators of the Carolinas (ARC) where I was put in touch with wonderful volunteer Dee Dee, that met me and took our squirrel.  She was very nice and helpful, she even had two squirrels with her that she was going to release back into the wild.  Dee Dee gave me a pamphlet with some great info on it.  The ARC website also has a bunch of great info, they are donation driven, so If you would like to help, contact them.

I felt I needed to make a card for Dee Dee to go along with my donation, so here is my paper pieced squirrel.  This is an old retired stamp set is called Super Squirrel.  I have kept it over the years, and it was perfect for this occasion.  The summer smooches DSP is nice and cheerful and fit the bill.  I heat embossed an acorn with the vanilla scented clear embossing powder for some nice shine.

This sentiment from the super squirrel set is perfect for this card.  It is stamped in lucky limeade and layered on the lucky limeade DSP from the summer smooches pack.  A seam binding ribbon bow (in pear pizzaz) really makes it cute.

There you have it , a quick and simple thank you card, which is truly heart sent.  Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Stamps:  Super Squirrel
Paper:  Summer Smooches, rich razzleberry, lucky limeade, whisper white
Ink:  rich razzleberry, lucky limeade, versamark
tools:  heat tool, paper snips, vanilla scented embossing powder, seam binding ribbon

Great story! You are nuts for squirrels I see! Always nice to extend your love of paper crafting to someone who is not expecting it, and she's bound to adore this squirrel as much as you! But I think you'll miss him, maybe you should make another to keep on the shelf. Push those nick knacks over and give him a home! Love it!

Aw, I have a soft spot for squirrels too and this is just the cutest thing! I don't think I ever paid much attention to this stamp before, but used this way, it certainly got my attention this time.
We grew up on a farm with no nut trees....so truthfully, I never saw a squirrel until I went to the college in the city. I was going crazy about all the squirrels and my roomies thought I was looney because I had never seen them before!!!!
Have a blessed Easter, Sandie!!

My Husband and I feed the squirrels on our back deck. The blue-jays are also fed the peanuts too! We have our squirrels named too! I am so looking for a good squirrel stamp. When I see one I like, I will get it then! Thanks for sharing, I love squirrels too!

So cute - love the razzleberry! We have plenty of squirrels around here - they make my dog crazy. They sit just far enough away from the end of the dog run so she can't get them!
