To Artisan or Not

Hello there!  Some of you in the know, have heard about the Stampin' Up! demo challenge called the Artisan Award.  It is a big honor since SU chooses only ten demos for this award.  This award is based on creativity, not sales  There are 10 projects that you have to complete and mail to SU by May 31st, five cards, three scrapbook pages, and two 3D items.

I have decided to throw my hat in the ring, but a challenge this big requires a lot of planning and staring off into space (thinking for me).  My family will be talking to me, and I will rush to jot an idea down, the first few times, they gave me strange looks, but now it is the norm.

I have some great ideas (I think) and will really be buckling down to get them finished with enough time to mail all the way to UTAH, which takes FOREVER, LOL!

I have been learning to use My Digital Studio, and I am getting pretty used to it.  Since scrapbooking is by far my weak point, I felt that I might have a chance if I scrapped via MDS.  Here is a practice page that I tweaked from a "predid" SU page:

What do you think?  I am sure you veterans out there might find it a wee bit lacking, but that is ok, the pages that I am going to submit have a bit more umph to them.  Here is my inspiration page:

I really liked this page, and the colors are really great.  I took some of the elements and used them, but since I did not have the exact DSP etc, I tried to make my own.  This is the beauty of the MDS software, you can do whatever you want, its brilliant!

Now, if you are still with me, the beauty of all of this is I can have SU PRINT these pages perfectly for me!!!  Yay, you can have them print individual pages, for around $2.50 a piece depending on size and weight of paper.  I sent in my ten pages on Monday night, and they were shipped the very next day.  WOW.  I cannot wait to see them and even though I cannot show them to you right now, you will get a chance to see them.

So, my good blog friends, if my posts seem a bit sparse, I am either staring off into space, or furiously crafting in my craft room.  Please have patience with me, you will see everything I finish when I can show you.  Please root me on, I would love to have your support!

Fabulous Friend

Hello there!  Today's card is my Stampin' Royalty Challenge card.  This week's Challenge is anything Monochromatic.  I got out my trusty color coach, and saw that Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant are "dynamic duos" which was a great starting point.

I had this background running around in my head for a bit, I wanted it to be the focal point of the card.  The Mixed Bunch flower was stamped in elegant eggplant, wisteria wonder, and whisper white inks on wisteria wonder paper.  I outlined each flower with my versamark pen to make them pop, then used the square lattice embossing folder to give it some texture.

I didn't want to cover too much of the background paper, so out came my favorite punch, the decorative label punch.  The elegant eggplant punch was crimped, then on top I used a scallop oval punch in wisteria wonder.  The sentiment is from the stamp set Oval All, which is retiring soon, so if you love it, get it now.  I used my blender pen to color in the flowers.  A simple loop of whisper white satin ribbon dresses it all up.

I love this little basic pearl combo, I tend to use the two different sizes a lot, I just love the look of it.  Some Berry Blossom DSP was used under my main panel, and a little dotted scallop ribbon border punch broke up the colors a bit.

There you have it, a simple but elegant monochromatic card.  I really hope you play along, making challenge cards really keep your card making skills sharp.  We would love to see what you come up with!  Hope you were inspired today, enjoy!

Stamps:  Mixed Bunch, Oval All
Ink:  Elegant Eggplant, wisteria wonder, whisper white craft ink

Attic Boutique Birthday

Hello there!  It's time for another Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge brought to you from our fabulous Margaret Moody!  Get your stampin' goodies ready (any brand you like) and play along on Thursday, April 19th. We can't wait to see what you create!

I interpreted this sketch as a square card, so my card is a 5 x 5 square, which gives me a little extra room to make each element stand out.

Let's start out on the flower.  I love how this flower turned out.  Mackie and I went shopping during spring break last week and I saw a flower similar to this on a shoe, can you believe it!  I had to take a picture and I just knew that I would recreate it soon.

The base of the flower is the new blossom punch, you will need two flowers, on each flower snip a little way in on each petal curve to give you the fringed look, curl inward with your bone folder.  Punch three of the largest flower on the boho blossom punch, cut and curl the same way.  Make one rolled flower using the 1 3/8 circle punch.  Stack all of your pieces up, use plenty of tombo glue to hold them together good.  A basic pearl was glued in the center.

The two side stripes are victoria ribbon and pool party seam binding ribbon that was dampened and scrunched together for a crinkly look.

The sentiment is the only part on the card that I am not crazy about how it turned out.  I clear (vanilla scented) embossed the sentiment from the curtly cute stamp set.  It does show up better in person, but is a bit difficult to see in the pictures.  Three little basic pearls are on the flag cut end.

The scallop square bigz clear die was cut in pool party and embossed with the perfect polka dot embossing folder.  The beautiful Attic Boutique DSP paper was used on the background and in the scallop square.  This paper was the starting point for my card.  I love it.

There you have it, a birthday card for a very special friend, remember the card from yesterday?  Well this card is going to her Mama whenever we can meet up.  They are wonderful friends, and I wanted to make sure they both have a special card.  Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Pretty in Pink Birthday

Hello there!  Here is today's Stampin' Royalty challenge #120.  This week's challenge is a sketch.  I love the circle peeking out, and the fun border.  Grab your supplies and play along.  We would love to see what you create.

March and April seem to be the month for birthdays, I know of at least 6 cards that have been sent out in the last few weeks.  WHEW!  This card is for my daughter's friend that we have known since they were two.  I thought the colors are young and fresh, just perfect for a 14 year old girl.

The birthday image is made up of two stamp sets, Party This Way, and a brand new set that is part of the summer smooches promo, Bright Blossoms.  I colored the stamps with my melon mambo and pumpkin pie stampin write markers.  I resisted the urge to bling up the flowers since I wanted  a CAS style for this card.

This pleated Flirtatious SDSP paper is a great use of the simply scored tool.  I alternately scored at 1/4 and 1/2 for a box pleat look.  A strip of melon mambo textured cardstock was punched with the scallop border punch.  I flattened out a part of the pleated paper and fit my main image panel snugly inside.

This laser cut doily also came out of the Flirtatious SDSP pack.  I have been hoarding them, and now is a great time to use them up.  The perfect polka dots embossing folder is just perfect for the whisper white background.  A large basic pearl dresses up the center of the doily.

There you have it, a pretty in pink birthday card.  Make sure you come back tomorrow for my Pals Paper Arts card, here is a little peek to wet your whistle.  Thanks for stopping by, hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Stamps:  Bright Blossoms, Party this Way
Paper:  Flirtatious SDSP, melon mambo, whisper white
Ink:  Melon mambo, pumpkin pie
Tools:  Scallop edge border punch, simply scored, big shot, perfect polka dots embossing folder, large basic pearls, stampin write markers

Blushing Butterfly

Hello All!  Today's Stampin' Royalty's challenge is a color challenge.  Grab your supplies and play along, take a look at the colors:

After seeing the colors, I looked them up on my color chart, and pulled some DSP from Just add Cake, Nursery Nest, and the In-Color DSP pack.  The Adorning Accents edgelet die and embossing folder was used on the peach parfait cardstock.  A blushing bride stitched ribbon brings it all together.

This little hello was made using the Pennant Parade stamp set, and the decorative label punch, you punch a whole punch first and repunch just the side.  Some basic pearls help to anchor the sentiment.  The labels collection label is cut in concord crush, and embossed with the stripes EF.

The Flower Fest stamp set makes great flowers and butterflies.  Both images can be punched out with the butterfly punch and the large scallop circle punch.  Some more basic pearls dress up the butterfly.

There you have it a colorful spring card.  Thanks so much for your lovely Easter Wishes, both Mackie and Tate had a fun time.  Here are some pictures from the egg hunt:

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Squirrel Thoughts

When I saw both the challenges for The Paper Players, and Freshly Made Sketches this week, I knew that I could combine them both for a card that I needed to make.  Here are the challenges:

As I have stated before on my blog, I love squirrels.  We try to feed the real ones in the yard, and I have a bunch of nic nac squirrels in the house.  So imagine to my distress, when Mackie came back from dog sitting on Sunday, saying that the dog had gotten a squirrel.  The squirrel was still alive, so I immediately searched online to find a "rehab" place that would take the squirrel and try to save it.

I found the Animal Rehabilitators of the Carolinas (ARC) where I was put in touch with wonderful volunteer Dee Dee, that met me and took our squirrel.  She was very nice and helpful, she even had two squirrels with her that she was going to release back into the wild.  Dee Dee gave me a pamphlet with some great info on it.  The ARC website also has a bunch of great info, they are donation driven, so If you would like to help, contact them.

I felt I needed to make a card for Dee Dee to go along with my donation, so here is my paper pieced squirrel.  This is an old retired stamp set is called Super Squirrel.  I have kept it over the years, and it was perfect for this occasion.  The summer smooches DSP is nice and cheerful and fit the bill.  I heat embossed an acorn with the vanilla scented clear embossing powder for some nice shine.

This sentiment from the super squirrel set is perfect for this card.  It is stamped in lucky limeade and layered on the lucky limeade DSP from the summer smooches pack.  A seam binding ribbon bow (in pear pizzaz) really makes it cute.

There you have it , a quick and simple thank you card, which is truly heart sent.  Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Stamps:  Super Squirrel
Paper:  Summer Smooches, rich razzleberry, lucky limeade, whisper white
Ink:  rich razzleberry, lucky limeade, versamark
tools:  heat tool, paper snips, vanilla scented embossing powder, seam binding ribbon

Easter Wishes

Hope you are ready for a fun new Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge! We're loving spring with this pretty color combination: Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery and Chocolate Chip. Join the Pals on Thursday, April 5th! Can't wait to see what you create!

Can you believe that Easter is this weekend?!  This is my first Easter card that I have made this season, whew time is flying!  I made this card for Mackie and Tate, I figured that it would be a great fit for both of them.  I used a bunch of different punches/dies:
  • Large Oval
  • Small Oval (retired)
  • 1 3/4 circle
  • Owl builder
  • 3/4 circle
  • Fashionable Hearts Embosslets die
  • Perfect Pennants Bigz L die
The ears were embossed with the square lattice EF.  A chocolate chip satin ribbon bow, gives Mr. Easter Bunny a bit of flare.

Here is my striped background, the pretty in pink is from the Flirtatious DSP, the certainly celery is from the patterns designer series paper pack, and the chocolate chip is a retired DSP.  I love this Easter Wishes stamp, but alas it is also retired.  I made a bit of a banner and flag cut the end.  A pretty in pink fringe flower completes the sentiment.  This flower was made the same way as yesterday's card, but without the button.

So there you have it, my first Easter card for this year.  My little guy Tate is really sick, so I am not sure I will be able to do any more crafting before Sunday, hopefully he will be better for the Easter egg hunt and to enjoy the festivities.  Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Paper:  Flirtatious DSP, patterns designer series paper pack, crumb cake, whisper white, chocolate chip DSP
Stamps: Something to Celebrate
Ink:  Chocolate chip
Tools: Large Oval, Small Oval (retired), 1 3/4 circle, Owl builder, 3/4 circle, Fashionable Hearts Embosslets die, Perfect Pennants Bigz L die, chocolate chip satin ribbon, square lattice EF
