My New Addiction....

Is making these Christmas ornament's!  Hello there, welcome to this week's Stampin' Royalty challenge.  This challenge is simply to use your big shot machine and make something out of die cuts.  So grab your supplies and head on over to Stampin' Royalty to link up your project.

I offered a local ornament class last week, so I needed to make a sample to show the class what we were making.  I made the ornament on the left hand side, which is the same ornament that is on the cover of the Holiday Mini Catalog.  My Christmas tree decorations are colors similar to cajun craze, cherry cobbler, garden green, elegant eggplant, and early espresso.  So when choosing my colors, I stuck with my color scheme.

This one has cajun craze in the back, and cherry cobbler in the front.  Early espresso scallop tulle was used as well as a rosette made out of the candlelight christmas SDSP.  I also used linen thread, champagne glimmer paper, snow flurry bigz die, a vintage faceted designer button, and a basic pearl.  This one was made with the same technique as the cover ornament.

Since I was on such a roll, I made some ornaments for Mackie's Christmas tree in her room.  Her room is a light purple, and her furniture is black.  Last year she found a black tree and decorated it with purple ornaments.  I know a black tree sounds strange, but it is really pretty.

These ornaments are made using whisper white card stock, wisteria wonder and black staz-on ink.  More snow flurry snowflakes were made out of shimmer white card stock for a bit of a shine.  I used the dazzling details on the edges of the largest ornament, and the regular dazzling diamonds glitter on the smaller ornament.  Baker's twine, basic rhinestones, antique brads, crumb cake scallop tulle, delicate doilies sizzlits, vintage faceted designer buttons were all used on these ornaments.

Stampin' Up! does offer a pictorial on how to make these ornaments, unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to post the documents to my blog, so if you EMAIL ME, I will email the documents to you ASAP!

Here are some TIPS to help you out:
  • Stamp all of your images first, that way you can cut different ornament shapes at the same time.
  • Use your scrap pieces.  Most all of my ornament die cuts were made by using up all of my scrap paper!
  • Anything can work for your center accent, be creative.
  • Use some sort of liquid glue to assemble the card stock, you want to get many years out of the ornaments.
  • I used the mini clothes pins to hold together my ornaments while the glue dried.
  • A hot glue gun to assemble the completed ornament pieces together is a must, also a must is our new silicone craft sheet.
  • You can use baker's twine instead of the linen thread for the little curly pieces.
  • Glitter is fun, you can not use too much on a christmas ornament!
  • They are very sturdy when done, and remarkably easy, just perfect for gift giving, wrap your ornament in some tissue (stamped, of course) and tuck it in a plain gift bag that you have embellished the outside to match.

Here is the big ornament next to some 2-way glue for size comparison, the glue is 4 1/2 inches tall.  This ornament is about the size of my open hand.  Pretty large.  This ornament uses three different ornament stamp/framelits, both early espresso and cherry cobbler scallop tulle, champagne glimmer paper and some of the above mentioned products.  This ornament is made out naturals ivory card stock, cherry cobbler, garden green, and early espresso ink.

That should do it for today, remember, if you would like a copy of the instructions, email me with a return email address and I will zip them right out to you.  I hope you were inspired, enjoy!

Absolutely stunning, Sandi! I really love the color combination of the last ornament! Although I have used DSP to make mine, using the ornament set is a great way to obtain a specific color combination. I know your local stampers were very happy with your class!
